first book of the year

Yeah, because I'm a total cheater! I deliberately saved the last two chapters of The Golden Compass to read today, so I knew my first read of the year would be an absolute winner. What I'd like to know is why the hell no one ever told me to read it before now?!! *ducking from objects now being thrown in my direction by Annie and Ana and Rich*

It goes without saying that I now want to dive right into The Subtle Knife. And I will. But the sad fact is that I really must to get back to all the reading I need to do for school. So The Subtle Knife is likely to be slow going. *sigh*

I so wish I was able to reader faster. And that I had more time for pure pleasurable reading. It's not a matter of numbers though. Honestly, I couldn't care less how my reading stats compare to anyone else's. I don't think that most of us do. No, what gets to me is feeling the years fly by, and knowing that the number of books that I will get read in my lifetime is so finite. There are just so many books out there that I just want to read so badly.

And this can be said for so many other things, too. So many places I want to see. So many movies I'd love to watch. So many creative ideas that have popped into my head to try and still reside only on written list...

But I guess none of these things are going to happen if I'm sitting here babbling about them, are they?

  2. I have to admit this book really scares me. I saw the movie previews and they looked interesting until the polar bear started talking. That was an automatic turnoff. I've been scared of the book ever since. :/

  3. I've never read this book, though I have heard good things about it. I've kind of been delaying, because I heard some bits of interviews with Mr. Pullman where he kind of seemed to come off as arrogant and intolerant = it's hard for me to read a book if I can't like the author, as stupid as that is. So I was kind of waiting around to see if I just got a bad impression of him... :D

  4. I've read all 3 of these books and enjoyed them a lot. The other 2 books won't disappoint you. I did not view the story in any religious manner which many do. IT's just a good fantasy story with good characters to me.

If you think YOU don't have enough time in life to read and view and do all you want to do...heh...the feeling doesn't go away when older, it just gets more desperate!

  6. Iknow how you feel...I don't get bummed out by the number of books I read, I just get bummed out by the fact that I can't read all that I want to!

  7. I loved this book and The Subtle Knife, but for some reason I never read the third one. I might have to reread these. I know what you mean about reading though, there are so many books I want to read and just keep going because I don't want to miss any.

  8. I want to read this damn series so bad!! I have the first one, but it's another one of those books that I've avoided for so long for some reason and I have no idea why :( I'll get to it this year hopefully!

  9. I am one of those weird people that didn't like this book. I read it a few years ago and it didn't do a lot for me.
